Huawei BM622 downgrade firmware 2010 via tftp

First of all is we have to make it sure that we are able to access or connect the Huawei BM622  4G WiMAX wireless broadband modem CPE by verifying through pinging the IP address 192.168.1.1 via CLI (command line interface) or thru web GUI (graphical user interface) on browser with same IP address at http://192.168.1.1 to make it realistic as show below snap shot.

Whether or not the Huawei BM622  4G WiMAX wireless broadband modem CPE enable/disable its DHCP server we have also to verify our PC if we are using Dynamic or Static IP address to anticipate if the CPE device reboots failed to provide IP address or the PC itself can not acquire its IP address.

Static IP address is more preferable during TFTP firmware uploading operation to make it sure we are in the same IP address subnet and our PC is still connected even if the CPE device fail its DHCP server during power on.

To start with, the PC must be ON with the Static IP address above mention. Power off the CPE device Huawei BM622, unplug the AC/DC adapter then plug it again and remain the power is OFF.
  1. Click START and RUN, then type cmd to open windows CLI (command line interface) mode
  2. Type cd\ to change directory i.g. C:\
  3. Make sure your bm622firmware2010.bin is in local drive C:\
  4. Type tftp –i 192.168.1.1 put bm622firmware2010.bin as you can see from the screenshot below, wait DO NOT press enter yet until to do so.
  5. Make sure or double check that the LAN cable is physically connected to the PC and to the CPE device Huawei BM622 port.

Huawei BM622 Blank WAN Substitute

If you happen accidentally, burned the WAN IC of your Huawei BM622 while removing the chips  from the board due to over heating of your workstation Hot-Air blower or brick it. Worry no more because the Huawei BM622 WAN IC Serial Flash Memory ST Micro/SGS M25P32 or the Spansion S25FL032A has so many cross references or substitute with other electronics manufacturer.

Here are few cross references or substitute to WAN IC of Huawei BM622 Serial Flash Memory ST Micro/SGS M25P32 or the Spansion S25FL032A.

Atmel
Intel
Macronix
SST
ST Microelectronic
Winbond
AT26DF321       datasheet
QB25F032S33B8
MX25L3205 datasheet
SST25VF032 datasheet
M25P32 datasheet
W25X32 datasheet

SST26VF032 datasheet

You can use this programming tool SPI-FlashROM-Programmer-r1.6.7 to be able to dump, read and write the chips.

How To Remove Spansion S29GL064 From BM622

Before doing this you MUST be a good experienced technician otherwise you will damage the Spansion S29GL064 flash memory IC and the board of the Huawei BM622 wireless broadband CPE modem.

Obviously, you have to open it! First you have to turn off or unplug the power and the cables from the device itself. Removed all four screws by using a match screw driver.

This is the board of the Huawei BM622 wireless broadband WiMAX CPE modem, the red mark represent the Spansion S29GL064 IC where the flash memory chip is. Other version of Huawei model BM622 its ST Micro M29W640 instead of Spansion flash memory this is just same TSOP48.

To be able to successfully removed this chip you must have a Gordak or in short a workstation  "Hot-Air" blower, these equipment are cellphone technician best friend without this stuff they can not finish their job in repairing mobile phone.

Before you can start the heating stage of the flash memory Spansion S29GL064 make it sure the Hot-Air is already stable, meaning the heat and the air must be blend that is why you must be a good experienced technician so that you know how to matched the required level of heat and the air to eliminate the damage of the board especially the flash memory chip Spansion S29GL064 or ST Micro M29W640 for other version.

Another thing to remember to avoid burning the flash memory chip Spansion S29GL064 or ST Micro M29W640 before pointing the nozzle head of the Hot-Air blower to the chips while on stable required heat and air make sure TOO MUCH flux is already being applied on it.

It will not take long to heat the flash memory chip Spansion S29GL064 or ST Micro M29W640 you will be able to remove it by lifting it using a small flat blade. Never use tweezer on removing or lifting the flash memory this will result a broken pins of the chips while pulling it.

Huawei BM622 Blank WAN Solved!

Huawei BM622 model is the first 4G WiMAX CPE wireless broadband modem supplied by Huawei Technologies from Shenzhen's for Globe Telecom one of the major wireless broadband ISP in the Philippines.

Recently there were so many complains from the 4G WiMAX wireless broadband subscribers that their CPE modem can't access to the internet. They have noticed upon opening the web GUI of the said 4G WiMAX CPE modem Huawe BM622 on the part of WAN interface its MAC address is missing/blank no wonder their connection interrupted or unsuccessful.

Until now there is still an issue of so called "BLANK WAN" of Huawei BM622 4G WiMAX wireless broadband CPE, to solved this problem and issue one should knows in basic electronics skill. BLANK WAN in other words WAN chips the ST Micro/SGS M25P32 Serial flash Memory IC is corrupted this is due to malicious programming or setting done by user in wrongly manipulations.

These are the things what you need to be able to solved your Huawei BM622 BLANK WAN.
  1. 50pesos LPT SPI hardware programmer or USB SPI hardware programmer (DIY)
  2. TV/DVD SPI Flash programmer software (Download)
  3. ST Micro/SGS M25P32 Serial flash Memory dump binary (ask Google/Forum/Neighbor/Friend)
The procedure to solve the BLANK WAN, first buy or do it yourself LPT SPI hardware programmer. Second is to download TV/DVD SPI flash programmer, third search and download BM622 WAN dump file from Google, forum, or download via TFTP your neighbor/friend BM622 ST Micro/SGS M25P32 Serial flash Memory dump binaries to your local drive.

If you have all these stuff now you can removed your Huawei BM622 WAN chips ST Micro/SGS M25P32 Serial flash Memory IC from its board and start uploading via LPT SPI hardware programmer or USB SPI hardware programmer using the TV/DVD SPI Flash programmer software.

Lastly, of course you have to put back your ST Micro/SGS M25P32 Serial flash Memory IC to its place again. If you are tired of placing it to its original position you can just soldered using 1ft/12 inches tiny wires for simplicity.
