Peptic Ulcer is a Common Disease

Peptic ulcers are lesions in the gastric mucosa (stomach) or upper small intestine mucosa (duodenum). These injuries occur when gastric secretion - which contains hydrochloric acid and an enzyme called pepsin - irritates and damages the stomach lining. It may affect the esophagus and gastric secretion. Peptic ulcers in the gastric mucosa are called gastric ulcers. The duodenal mucosa occurring are called duodenal ulcers.


Causes of peptic ulcers

Two of the most common causes of peptic ulcers are the infection with bacteria called Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and abuse of non stroidian inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin. Although most people are infected with H. pylori, only a few will make peptic ulcer disease. Some risk factors give some person with H. pylori an increased susceptibility for developing ulcers. Some of these factors little known, include:
  1. Smoking
  2. Alcohol abuse
  3. History of ulcer
  4. Physical stress caused by a severe illness or accident (major trauma, addiction for ventilation apparatus or surgery).
  5. Most ulcers that are not caused by H. pylori are given by NSAIDs. NSAIDs are prescribed to reduce pain and inflammation in chronic (long lasting)disease as arthritis or headaches (migraines). Used for weeks or months, NSAIDs may affect gastric tract mucosa, resulting in an ulcer or activating an ulcer already formed.
  6. A rare cause of peptic ulcers is Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. In this condition the stomach secretes hydrochloric acid in excess, which affects the gastric mucosa.
  7. Psychological stress, added to other risk factors can increase your chances of developing a peptic ulcer.
Risk factors for peptic ulcer
  • Controllable risk factors. The following risk factors may increase the chance of developing a peptic ulcer and may slow the healing of existing ulcers. It can reduce the risk of developing an ulcer by controlling or eliminating these factors: use of NSAIDs (like aspirin), smoking, alcohol abuse.
  • Uncontrollable risk factors. Some uncontrollable factors may increase the risk of developing an ulcer. These include:
    - H. pylori infection, which is the most common cause of ulcers
    - Physical stress given by a severe illness or trauma
    - Excessive secretion of gastric acid
    - Ulcer in family history
What is not a risk factor?

Eating spicy foods or coffee or moderate amounts of alcohol were considered to favor the development of an ulcer but currently, are no longer taken into account. Although some foods and beverages do not increase the risk of developing an ulcer, they can cause indigestion or
heartburn. They should be avoided if not tolerated.

Most doctors are not convinced that psychological stress can lead to ulcers. However, in combination with other risk factors, stress may promote the development of peptic ulcer.

Symptoms of peptic ulcers

Symptoms of peptic ulcer vary and are not essential for the diagnosis of an ulcer. Some people may not have symptoms.

Symptoms of an ulcer, such as dyspepsia (digestive discomfort sensation, appeared after meals) may often be confused with other abdominal disorders as gastroesophageal reflux (EGR).

Specific symptoms of ulcers are:
  1. Pain in the form of burns or erosions, and bone xifoid between umbilical region (lower portion of the sternum, popularly known for "chest"). Sometimes the pain radiates back. Abdominal pain takes a few minutes to few hours and goes away from taking an antacid drug or acid secretion inhibitors. Symptoms are periodic, the pain comes and goes, and symptoms alternate with periods without symptoms:
  2. Loss of appetite (lack of appetite) and weight loss
  3. Abdominal bloating and nausea after meals
  4. Vomiting after meals
  5. Black stool that contains blood or red pitch dark for a bleeding ulcer
Symptoms of duodenal ulcers and gastric pain are similar except for periodicity.

Duodenal ulcer pain may occur several hours after eating (when the stomach is empty) and may improve postprandial. The pain may awaken the patient at night. Gastric ulcer pain may occur shortly after eating (when food is still in the stomach).

Some ulcers do not show symptoms and are known as silent ulcers. About half of all ulcers do not show symptoms, but when complications arise. Complications of an ulcer may be bleeding, perforation,penetration, or obstruction of the digestive tract. Silent ulcers are common in the elderly, people with diabetes or those who consume more anti-inflammatory such as Aspirin.

Soursop The Promising Cancer Treatment

The soursop, Annona muricata, belongs to the Annonaceae family, along with the paw paw, Asimina triloba. Initially grown for its delicious fruit, it has recently been promoted as an antic cancer treatment.


Health and alternative medicine publications continually refer to research work carried out at Purdue University under the leadership of Dr. Jerry McLaughlin, and claim that McLaughlin and his co-workers have isolated a group of chemicals from the soursop that selectively target the tumour cells of drug resistant cancers.

The Truth Behind the Anti-Cancer Claims

Mclaughlin has, in fact, carried out National Cancer Institute funded research on both the soursop and the paw paw since 1976. He has also discovered a group of chemicals known as the annonaceous acetogenins that do indeed appear to destroy tumour cells in breast, ovarian, pancreatic, liver and lung cancers. These chemicals, derivatives of long chain fatty acids, have also been shown to display pesticidal properties.


Despite these tests occurring in vitro only (that is, in the lab but not on actual cancer patients), McLaughlin’s results are encouraging. The acetogenins appear to act by inhibiting an important electron transport pathway in the production of ATP in the mitochondria of tumour cells, with the result that these cells are depleted of the energy they require to grow and multiply.

Moreover, it is the tumour cells that seem to be targeted and not normal somatic cells, as Purdue scientists discovered in tests on six human cell lines. Apparently, a special glycoprotein pump present in tumour cells that is capable of resisting the effects of anti cancer drugs is destroyed by acetogenins.

The Limited Effectiveness of the Soursop as a Cancer Treatment

Mclaughlin’s best results, however, have been with the paw paw, rather than the soursop. Two acetogenins, Bullatacin and Bullatalicin, found only in the paw paw, have proved to be much more potent than other chemicals in this family of compounds.

The Purdue team have discovered that these two molecules have double ring structures, as opposed to the less effective compounds with single or triple rings. Tests carried out by the pharmaceutical company, Pfizer, have also confirmed the effectiveness of Bullatacin in killing tumour cells.

As a consequence, while the 30 or so acetogenins in the soursop do have the capacity to destroy cancer cells, they are much less effective than those found in the paw paw. Furthermore, because extracting acetogenins from the soursop is not rigorously controlled, there is no guarantee that the concentration of this compound in the ground leaves, seeds and twigs of the plant is consistent.

Paw paw preparations, on the other hand, appear to be more stringently monitored. Paw paw twig extract, endorsed by McLaughlin, is available in capsule form from the company ‘Nature’s Sunshine’. Given the higher potency of paw paw acetogenins, coupled with its more sophisticated production techniques, it would seem that cancer patients seeking alternative treatments should choose this over any soursop products on the market.

Why Haven’t Acetogenin Treatments Been Approved by the F.D.A?

It must be noted that none of these acetogenin preparations have yet to be approved by the FDA as cancer treatments. According to the alternative medicine magazine, ‘Truth on Medicine’, large pharmaceutical companies, which could afford clinical trials, are not interested in acetogenins because they are natural compounds that cannot be synthesised.

As a result, they cannot be patented and are therefore not a profitable proposition. Mclaughlin himself adds that because the acetogenins have multiple forms (or isomers), it would be too difficult a task for these companies to process an average of around 256 possible isomers per molecule. With a range of up to 50 different acetogenins, McLaughlin believes this would be ‘simply too complex for modern studies’.

Can Acetogenins be Synthesised?

The accuracy of McLaughlin’s statement can perhaps be questioned in the light of studies by the University of Minnesota in 1993 and the Scripps Research Institute in 2000 that have in fact managed to synthesise isomers of Bullatacin, one of the most potent acetogenins. Whether this is enough for pharmaceutical companies to work with and patent is another question.

Nevertheless, the fact that independent studies continually show the tumour suppressing qualities of the acetogenins suggests a degree of truth in the claims made about the Annonaceae family. In the light of McLaughlin’s work, however, further research on the paw-paw rather than the soursop would appear to hold more promise.

What is Local Loop Unbundling?

Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) is the process where the incumbent operators (BT and Kingston in the UK) makes its local network (the copper cables that run from customers premises to the telephone exchange) available to other companies. Operators are then able to upgrade individual lines using DSL technology to offer services such as always on high speed Internet access, direct to the customer.

Types of access

For LLU, operators have the choice of a number of options for gaining access to the local loop.

1. Physical space within the incumbent's site

BT offers operators two options for co-location within its exchanges. The location of an operator's equipment in a site can either be within a hostel, a room that is built to a standard design to house a number of operators, or in a bespoke arrangement. The basic unit of capacity of a hostel is the "equipment bay". In the standard hostel arrangement the unit of space is a three rack bay which has a footprint of 1.8m x 0.8m and a total area, including circulation space, of 10m2. This area is separate from the incumbent's operations.

If an operator does not wish to be located within a hostel (e.g. where they have non-standard requirements) they have the option of requesting a bespoke arrangement.


Each pair of copper wires run from the customer's home to the primary connection point (PCP). The PCP's are the cabinets that are located at the side of the road. The PCP connects the wires from the customer's home to a pair of wires from the exchange. Inside the exchange the wires in the external cable are terminated on the main distribution frame (MDF) and then are connected to the internal exchange equipment.


The wires connected to the MDF are then connected via an internal tie cable from the MDF to the handover distribution frame (HDF) which is adjacent to the OLO's equipment. The HDF (Handover Distribution Frame) is used to terminate the cable from the exchange and to make the pairs available to the operator.

2. Distant co-location

One of the options available to operators is distant location. This is where an operator houses its equipment away from the incumbent's building and uses a tie cable to connect the incumbent's exchange with this remote site. The remote site can be a building or a green cabinet on the side of a road.

A tie cable is used to connect the MDF at the local exchange to the HDF at the distant site, but in this case an external tie cable is used.

3. Line Sharing

The EU Regulation on LLU requires incumbents to offer shared access (or line sharing). Line sharing enable operators and the incumbent to share the same line. Consumers can acquire data services from an operator while retaining the voice services of the incumbent. Some operators may choose to offer data services only, so with line sharing consumers can retain their BT service for voice calls while getting higher bandwidth services from another operator without needing to install a second line.

From the MDF the wires are connected to a splitter (which separates the frequencies for voice telephony and those for higher bandwidth services). The incumbent provides voice telephony over the lower frequency portion of the line, while another operator provides DSL services over the high frequency portion of the same line.

4. Sub-loop unbundling

The EU Regulation also requires that other operators can interconnect with the local access network at a point between the incumbent's site and the end user. This arrangement is referred to as sub-loop unbundling.

In sub loop unbundling the connection point is the primary connection points (PCP's), which are the green street cabinets. Sub-loop unbundling can be used for emerging technologies such as VDSL where the equipment needs to be much closer to the home to deliver very high bandwidth services. An optical fibre would deliver the high-speed services to the local green cabinet and VDSL used to send them along the copper pair to the consumer's premises.


The equipment that transfers the incumbent's line to the other operator is adjacent to the PCP (the cabinet by the side of the road) rather than the telephone exchange. This arrangement will be used for distributing very high bandwidth services, which can only be sent a short distance on the copper pair.

History of LLU

In November 1999, Oftel issued a statement, Access to Bandwidth: Delivering Competition for the Information Age, which set out its decision to require BT to make its local loop available to other operators.

The Statement set out Oftel's conclusion that the opening up of the local loop was necessary to introduce competition into the provision of higher bandwidth services such as high speed always on Internet access and video on demand.

The statement also concluded that local loops should be available at cost based prices (which Oftel would determine). The requirement for BT to provide loops would be through a licence condition to be inserted in BT's licence (see Annex C). The statement also set out Oftel's approach to BT's wholesale DSL service.

To take this work forward, four industry groups were set up. These activities have been co-ordinated by a Focus Group, chaired by Oftel since September 2000. The groups focussed on Trials, Products and Processes, Commercial Issues and Contracts. - source

Samsung White ATIV Smart PC in South Korea

Samsung launched their ATIV Smart PC, which runs Microsoft’s Windows 8 OS last year, and now they have launched a new version of the device in South Korea, although the only changes are the color scheme as this new version comes in white and keeps the same hardware specifications as the existing model.


The Samsung Ativ Smart PC features an 11 inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768, and is powered by a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom Z2760 Clover Trail processor, it also comes with 2GB of RAM.

Other specifications on the ATIV Smart PC include support for Samsung’s S-Pen, 64GB of built in storage, and it comes with the keyboard dock which also features Ethernet and USB built in.

There are no details as yet on whether Samsung intends to launch the white version of their ATIV Smart PC outside of Korea, as soon as we get some more informati0n we will let you guys know.

J&W have launched a new Android Mini PC this week, which has been created to try and make Android computing a little more mainstream and provides a small form factor Mini PC for just €99.

The new J&W Minix Neo X5 Android mini PC is powered by a Rockchip Dual Core Cortex A9 CPU, supported by 1GB of DDR3 memory and graphics provided by a Quad Core Mali 400 GPU.

Out of the box the Minix Neo X5 runs Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system, but its not been mentioned if an upgrade to Google’s latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system is currently in the works.

Other features of the Minix Neo X5 include 3 x USB 2.0 ports, 1 X HDMI, 1 x SD Card Reader, 1 x Ethernet and wireless connectivity via 802.11 a/b/g/n. A stick version of the Android mini PC is also available for €75.

VIA $49 APC Android Mini PC

Via Technologies only put its new APC Android PC system up for pre-order in the last 24 hours and its already sold out. Just three weeks ago Via took the wraps off their new barebones Android mini PC
Which is capable of running Google’s latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system, and just like the popular Raspberry Pi mini computer, has now sold out in the first day of being available.

Equipped with a VIA WonderMedia ARM 11 SoC at 800 MHz processor., the mini PC system supports 720p HD video with hardware acceleration, and includes 2 GB of flash storage, with 512 MB of integrated DDR3 SDRAM.

Other features include a microSD card slot on the back panel for storage expansion, VGA out, HDMI out, four USB 2.0 ports, audio outputs, and Ethernet.

CuBox Pro World's Smallest Opensource PC


A new open source mini computer has been created and unveiled this week called the CuBox Pro. Which has been created using a 800-megahertz dual-issue ARM PJ4 Marvell Armada 510 SoC (system on a chip) processor, supported by 1GB or RAM.


The CuBox Pro mini PC has no fan and measures just 2 inches square and weighs 3.2 ounces, but is capable of displaying full high definition video and will sell for around $159 when it launches later this month.
“We are proud to add the CuBox Pro to our product line,” says Kossay Omary, chief executive of SolidRun. “We believe many of our customers will benefit from the extra memory size regardless of what application they use their CuBox Pro for. Our customers will also notice that the power consumption of the new design is not impacted at all, which was a very important target for us.”
Other features of the tiny CuBox Pro Open Source Mini PC include infra-red receiver, gigabit ethernet port, two USB 2.0 ports and a micro-SD slot. SolidRun expects to start shipping the CuBox Pro mini PCs before the end of this month.

EOS Camera years in Pacific reunited with owner.

After spending more than a year being washed around the Pacific Ocean, a Canon EOS 1000D camera and the photographs contained on its SD card have been reunited with its owner.


As you would expect the Canon EOS camera, pictured below, is no longer working. But the SanDisk Extreme III SD card inside of it was able to be washed, and more than 50 images were recovered. With a date stamp suggesting the camera had been in the salty depths for over a year.


The camera was found during a scuba trip by Markus Thompson, who was diving in Deep Bay just outside Vancouver. After publishing some of the images on Google+, Markus was able to track down the Canon EOS 1000D camera’s original owner. A firefighter and his family from British Columbia and reunite them with their photographs and Canon EOS 1000D paperweight.

Fujifilm FinePix S6800 Snap Review

Are you in the market for a new camera? Fujifilm has announced the Fujifilm FinePix S6800 long zoom digital camera. This shooter comes with a 16-megapixel 1/2.3-inch BSI-CMOS sensor, which is perfect for shooting quality low noise shots, especially at sensitivities that go up to as high as ISO 12800.
Other features include an autofocus speed of 0.3 seconds, and a fast boot up. It is capable of shooting photos just a second after booting up. There is just a 0.5 second interval between shots too, with a continuous shooting speed of 10fps. You can also capture video in Full HD resolution at 60fps with stereo sound. It has a secondary zoom control on the side of the lens barrel that lets you adjust the zoom with your left hand too.

It has three zoom speeds, or you can use the Auto Return Zoom control. It is powered by 4 AA batteries and comes in black, white and red.

Pen That Scan, take Pictures and Voice Recorder?

If you’re the sort of person that finds you often need to make copies of documents or portions of documents, you may be interested in a new product from Hammacher Schlemmer. The product is called the Pen Sized Scanner. It’s a working ballpoint pen that has some interesting technology packed inside.


The pen has a five-megapixel image sensor combined with an autofocus lens and 1 GB of storage. You can take photographs in 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution of anything from letters to recipes and more. The pen is able to put a laser rectangle on the page when you press the shutter button halfway down to show what you are capturing.

The pen also has an integrated microphone and can record voice memos in WAV format. The pen is powered by a rechargeable battery and supports Mac and Windows computers. The pen is available right now for $124.95.

Samsung Galaxy Note Snap Review

It is time for our Samsung Galaxy Note review, the Samsung Galaxy Note was first launched near the end of last year, unfortunately we didn’t manage to review the device when it was released, so I thought it was about time to try one out.


The first thing you notice about the Samsung Galaxy Note is the size of the device compared to other handsets, the device is designed to be a combination device between a smartphone and a tablet, and it features a 5.3inch Super AMOLED display.

Samsung Galaxy Note Hardware Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy Note’s 5.3 inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, the device comes with Samsung’s S-Pen and processing is provided by a dual core 1.4GHz processor.


The Galaxy Note features an 8 megapixel camera on the back which can record full HD video in 1080 at 30 frames per second, the camera also features an LED flash, up front there is a 2 megapixel camera for video chat.

Other specifications on the Samsung Galaxy Note include Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0 and 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi plus WiFi direct, it comes with 16GB of built in storage plus a microSD card slot which takes up to 32GB microSD cards.

Samsung Galaxy Note Design, Display And UI

The first thing you notice about the Samsung Galaxy Note is the size of the device, especially when compared to other handsets, the photo below illustrates just how large the Samsung Galaxy note is when compared to other devices, as you can see in the photo which shows the Galaxy Note next to the iPhone 4S.

Considering the Galaxy Notes large 5.3 inch display we would have expected it to be thicker and heavier , but the handset measures just 9.65mm thick and weighs in at just 178 grams.

The Galaxy Notes 5.3 inch display is a Super AMOLED display which has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, and as with previous Samsung devices with an AMOLED display that we have reviewed it certainly is an impressive display.


The 5.3 inch Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy Note in excellent, and great for watching videos and movies, also browsing the web, reading emails and playing games is also very good on the display.

The Galaxy Note we tested in this review had Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface which is great to use, although Samsung has started rolling out their Android 4.0 ICS update to the device.

Samsung Galaxy Note Processor, Camera And S-Pen

As we mentioned the Samsung Galaxy Note features a dual core 1.4GHz processor, the processor feels pretty fast on the device, opening apps and running games on the handset feels fast and responsive.

The Galaxy note features a rear facing 8 megapixel camera which does it great job of taking photos, it also has an LED flash and comes with some cool feature like Panorama, the photo below gives you an idea of how camera on the Galaxy note is, the image has been resized but not edited.

The Galaxy Note’s camera can also record full high definition video in 1080p at 30 frames per second, and it does a good job with video, there is also a front facing 2 megapixel camera for video chat.

One of the more interesting features on the Galaxy Note is the S-Pen, which is a stylus designed to be used with the 5.3 inch Super AMOLED display, i have never been a fan of the stylus with touchscreen devices, but the Samsung S-Pen works very well.

The Galaxy Note features a number of built in apps that are designed specifically for the S-Pen, which include S-Memo, and more plus there are a bunch of third party apps available which are designed for the S-Pen.

Samsung Galaxy Note Battery Life And Call Quality

The Samsung Galaxy Note features a 2,500 mAh Li-on battery which does a reasonable job, and I would say it is better than average considering the handsets large 5.3 inch display.

Moderate users should get at least a full day of usage out of the handset, although if you are a heavy user then you can expect to charge the handset once a day, don’t expect to go for days without charging the device.

The call quality is excellent on the Samsung Galaxy Note, we tested the GSM version on UK mobile carrier three and didn’t have any issues making or receiving calls.

Conclusion

When I first heard about the Samsung Galaxy Note and saw the specifications, and the size of the device, I didn’t think this would be the sort of device I would like to use on a daily basis.

I used the Samsung Galaxy Note as my handset for about two weeks and was pleasantly surprised with the experience, whilst it is one of the largest smartphones I have used it certainly was a fun handset to use.

It has it plus and minus points, as the device is so large I am not sure if I could use this as my regular handset, although if I wanted one device to replace my smartphone and tablet then this would definitely be a contender.

Samsung have done a great job with the Galaxy Note, the design the handset as a cross between a smartphone and a tablet, which some people call a ‘Phablet’, and if you are looking for a device to cover these two areas than the Samsung Galaxy Note fits the bill.

I would definitely recommend that you test out the Samsung Galaxy Note to see what you think of it, it may not be for everyone due to its large size, but it is a great device for those who want one device rather than two.

Linksys EA3500 N750 Dual Band Giga Router


Ominous sounds of the full name of the object, but let us call it simply EA3500 Linksys router. With two-channel Wi-Fi, 1 Gbps LAN, USB support, and compatibility with Android phones planšetėmis.

TP-Link TL-WDR4300 N750 Router Review

Today we take a look at the new flagship router from TP-Link, a networking company that is trying to make a name for itself by offering quality - but inexpensive - network products. When looking at their catalog you will see they have a full suite of networking equipment for your home or small business.


The thing that sets TP-Link apart from the rest is that their price point for their equipment is significantly lower than their competitors. For example, you can find the TP-Link TL-SG1005D 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch for $19.98 from pretty reputable vendors on the internet while searching for a similar Netgear 5-Port Gigabit switch like the GS105 costs $39.99. With this in mind we were very interested in getting our hands-on their newly introduced TP-Link TL-WDR4300 Dual-Band Wireless Router.


TP-LINK's TL-WDR4300 is a performance optimized dual band wireless router which combines the blazing fast speeds of 450Mbps using the next generation Wi-Fi standard 5GHz bandwidth and 300Mbps using the traditional Wi-Fi standard 2.4GHz bandwidth. Users will have a total bandwidth of 750Mbps (thus the "N750" tag) to use for many different applications at the same time. Simple applications such as web browsing and emails can easily be handle by the 2.4GHz bandwidth at 300Mbps, whereas tasks like online gaming or HD video streaming can be process with the 5GHz bandwidth at 450Mbps all at the same time. This can all be done with the simultaneous dual band which is like running two wireless routers in one giving users lighting speed.
Because the TP-Link TL-WDR4300 has five Gigabit ports and 800Mbps+ hardware NAT, wired devices should have lag-free connections and will perform well. Based on these specifications, users should be able to power a fairly robust home media network. As with many new routers and gateways that have recently be released, this router is versatile enough for you to turn it into a media and print server. For $90, this router has all the bells-and-whistles that the 'big boys' have. We are very interested in seeing if the router's performance lives up to the hype.

Here is a quick video overview of TP-LINK's TL-WDR4300 wireless router that was done by TP-Link.


When we open up the TP-Link N750 Box we find a slimmer-than-normal router measuring about 9.6" x 6.4" x 1.3" weighing 2.1 pounds. The router definitely has a unique look finished in glossy piano black with fairly large lights on the front. The TL-WDR4300 actually has 10 different indicator lights on the front and uses 3 external detachable dual band antennas to function. The box also includes the power supply unit, a resource CD and a quick installation guide.


On the back you will find five gigabit ports along with the two multifunctional USB 2.0 ports. The three external detachable antennas screw on to the back of the router and allow you to align each independently. Having a detachable antenna gives you the option of attaching an 'after-market' antenna like the $23.99 TP-Link TL-ANT2409A that extends the 2.4GHz range. Finally, we see a physical button that can turn the TP-Link wireless transmitter on and off.


After opening the TP-Link WDR4300, we see that it is powered by a Qualcomm/Atheros "Hy-Fi" reference design AR9344 system-on-a-chip. This chip is the processing power that allows for the integrated dual-band 802.11n and all of its interfaces. The AR9344 chip supports a second 802.11n radio as well that TP-Link has taken advantage of.


You can also easily see the Group-Tek HST-48002SAR 1000BASE-T Transceivers that power the 4 LAN and 1 WAN Gigabit Ethernet ports. The rest of the PCB is very clean with a neat and uncluttered design. There are no active cooling elements or heatsinks located inside the TP-Link N750 so we really don't expect it the router to run that hot - or use that much power. We'll actually look at the router's power consumption a bit later on.


The TP-Link TL-WDR4300 also features one button security setup located on the back of the router and by pressing the Wi-Fi protected setup button, the router will automatically establish a WPA2 secure connection. The TL-WDR4300 supports IP QoS (Quality of Service), allowing optimum utilization of bandwidth and offering bandwidth control over congestion, preventing bandwidth abuse. This feature allows users who have small networks to receive committed and specific bandwidth which will prevent non-critical applications from degrading network performance. - source

Android Running on the iPhone


A few weeks ago, we showed you Android running on the iPhone 2G but now you can run Google’s Android on your 3G as well. Awesome work! We’ll post an update in a few days when a downloadable version is available for you to install on your iPhone. A brief video demo is below and more info can be found on the project site.


Oh, and did we mention that you can dual boot the iPhone OS and Android? You can! That means you’ll be able to use all of the 38,000 Android apps (some of which are banned from the iPhone) as well as your old iPhone apps.

Google’s Nexus Attach any USB Peripheral


A Nexus One Android phone normally won’t let you run any other peripheral device. But if you hack the phone to run on “USB Host mode” you can plug in all sorts of USB peripherals. USB Host mode lets you to external hard drives, digital cameras, external monitors, etc. to your Android phone just like a regular computer!


The Android hack shows how to enable USB Host mode by tinkering the Android firmware. With the USB Host mode enabled, a Nexus one can be used like a standalone workstation. As the video above shows, you can play movies, start a webcam, connect a keyboard, and even a large monitor display. The hack is for the Android 2.2 platform but it may work with version 2.1 also.
