myBRO DV235T at P1 WiMAX Malaysia

An old friend of mine from menanjung came along bringing his P1 WiMAX wireless broadband with him seem to be who can live with out the internet connection. I said to him that have like that but different model that I use for surfing in my country. Good thing is that he lent me his WiMAX CPE for a while and ask him if its possible to try my abandoned myBRO DV235T that is also made by Packet One Malaysia only assembled in China. hehehe :)

Fast forwarding after a few tweaks, here's what I got it peaks up the frequency and suddenly get hook to the BTS. Yes it did connect and able to surf with my friend account, this is only want to prove that they really belongs to same clan.

As you can see from the screenshot, well done. Its myBRO DV235T WiMAX CPE from Smart Telecommunication from the Philippines good to know it did get work.

Now the WAN IP address of P1 WiMAX network, likewise the DNS. Below is the P1 WiMAX Welcome page, IP address is just the same as in the myBRO DV235T graphical user interface.

Yay! Ready to surf, can not wait to check the speedtest ? FYI, Packet One 4G WiMAX has two package the Prepaid and the Postpaid. Unlike Globe and Smart WiMAX in the Philippines they are strickly to postpaid only. Fair Usage Policy also applies to P1 you will have your qouta per month.

Fortunately I manage to surf the net comfortably this only means that my friend account still have a lot more balance remaining. Enjoy reading...

PLDT Smart 4G WiMAX MyBro Abot Kaya 499 Promo fixed wireless broadband

One of the hottest 4G WiMAX fixed wireless home broadband today is My Bro Abot Kaya 499 from PLDT and Smart. It’s in line with Smartbro’s products and internet services of WiMAX pocket modem and PLDT’s Home services. For just 499 per month, you can have fast internet browsing and surfing with a speed up to 1Mbps. I made a review about this fresh WiMAX product.

My Bro 499 Wireless Home Broadband Review

When I went to Smart Service Center recently, I noticed a lot of people were inquiring about the new WiMAX pocket modem – My Bro 499. While on queue waiting for my number to be called, I noticed majority of the interested users were kids, grade schoolers, tagged along their moms and dads asking about Mybro 499 abot kaya (affordable in English). I noticed too that after the Smart employee discussed the product’s features, some of the customers ended up with the Plan 999 Smartbro Canopy product. Ironic because I was there to close my contract with that Plan 999 and there were some customers too who were there complaining about the intermittent internet connection of SmartBro Canopy. Hands down with SmartBro Motorola Canopy SM fixed wireless internet broadband, it was really fast especially with my first 2 years of using it. It was strange though it was too slow recently with effect of FUP aka the "fair usage policy" implementation by the telco so I decided to end the deal.

My Bro 499 Promo offers a 4G WiMAX fixed wireless antenna similar to SmartBro Canopy but lower frequency instead of 5.7GHz it uses 2.3GHz outdor CPE built-in modem on it that’s why it’s called wireless home broadband . It means, internet connection is wireless so signal is not so fixed unlike DSL. My Bro also offers up to 1Mbps speed of up without uncapping capacity monthly – meaning it’s unlimited unlike the Plan 499 512kbps WiMAX pocket modem. You can also attached your WiFi router but the bandwidth will also be shared among the devices connected therefore the speed will vary accordingly, for an average user it’s really recommended who research and surf the web, do emails, Facebook, chat and watch online video's but this is not recommended for heavy downloader. If you are a heavy internet user, the Plan 1299 which has up to 2Mbps speed is right for you or go for the faster speed like PLDT Fibr which uses fiber optic network and connection capable of fast and stable internet connection.

This the PLDT Smart myBro 4G WiMAX CPE supplied by GreenPacket Technology Malaysia, there three (3) models for outdoor unit the OX230/250 and the OX330. The fixed wireless broadband modem router is identical to Huawei Technologies that is being supplied to Globe Telecom such as BM622, BM622i, BM622m they are using same license radio frequency but allocated to 2.3GHz while other 2.5GHz.

You can navigate and check your myBro CPE graphical user interface (gui) by pointing your web browser to http://192.168.15.1 if you want to fine tune or configure the setting with the default username and password as "smart" without quote. Take note account for smart username and password has only limited privileged unlike the Administrator you can view everything, portforwarding, QoS setting, signal setting etc. Likewise to get access with the CLI vis telnet same username and password will do except for root.

The new myBro Plan 499 is offered via a new device: the WiMax Pocket Modem. It’s chic, easy to use, and very easy to install! This the new slogan of myBro once you go the official website of SmartBro.

One of the hottest wireless home broadband today is My Bro Abot Kaya 499 from PLDT and Smart. It’s in line with Smartbro’s products and internet services of WiMAX pocket modem and PLDT’s Home services. For just 499 per month, you can have fast internet browsing and surfing with a speed up to 512kbps. I made a review about this fresh WiMAX product.

Hands down with Smartbro, it was really fast especially with my first 2 years of using it. It was strange though it was too slow recently so I decided to end the deal.

My Bro 499 offers WiMAX wireless indoor modem that’s why it’s called wireless home broadband . It means, internet connection is wireless so signal is not so fixed unlike DSL. My Bro also offers up to 512kbps speed of up to 3GB capacity monthly – meaning it’s not unlimited like the Plan 999 1mbps.You can use WiFi yes but with this kind of speed, it’s really recommended for light internet users who research and surf on the web, do emails, Facebook, chat lightly but this is not recommended for downloading and uploading fast or live streaming videos and downloading music. If you are a heavy internet user, the Plan 999 which has up to 1mbps speed is right for you or go for the faster speed like PLDT Fibr which uses fiber optic network and connection capable of fast and stable internet connection.

My Bro 499 is really abot kaya. But for a wise user, using the unlimited internet product is wiser.

My Bro PLDT Wimax Features:
  • Wireless internet connection
  • Free installation (around 3 days upon application and payment)
  • 2 years contract
  • Unlimited internet surfing but with 3GB monthly volume allowance
My Bro 499 Internet Requirements:
  • A valid ID
  • Proof of billing or latest credit card statement
  • Credit Card if you’ll pay via it
  • Cash of 499 for the first payment

Smart MyBro 4G WiMAX Green Packet DX-230 GUI

For my curiosity I was able to navigate the GUI (graphical user interface) of this Smart MyBro 4G WiMAX Green Packet DX-230 wireless broadband ODU (out-door-unit) CPE. The web interface is so simple and not so complex with limited menus unlike of those 4G WiMAX CPEs from Huawei Technologies that have been supplied to Globe Telecom ISP.

As you can see this is the login page of this SmartBro MyBro 4G WiMAX Green Packet DX-230 wireless broadband GUI, to be able to access the interface you have to point your fave browser to http://192.168.15.1 with the default username and password as "smart" without quote. The smart username and password has only limited privilege to user only, it can be login also via telnet and ssh to port 23 and 22 respectively.

As I have said the user account has only limited accessibility, on top menus are Status, Networking and Management. Under sub-menu of status are WiMAX Satus, Network Status and Device Status. The things that are visible on WiMAX Status namely are
System Status: Frequency, BSID, Dev State, Uptime
Link Status: RSSI, CINR R1, CINR R3 TX Power, UL MC5, DL MC5

The Network Status are WAN and LAN such as the IP address, Netmask, Gateway, MAC address, ISP DNS.

On the Device Status you can see the Hardware model, Firmware version, Date and Serial numbers of the CPE.

The Networking main menu only have two sub-menus such as DCHP Server and DDNS, DHCP Server has only three mode this are none, server and relay. It can be also set the DNS manually such as using openDNS or Google DNS.

The DX-230 also support DDNS (dynamic DNS) that has at least six pre-installed this are www.dyndns.org, www.tzo.com, www.dhs.org, www.easydns.com, www.ods.com and www.zoneedit.com.

Similarly on the Management main menu there are only two sub-menus such as Log and Recovery.

The Recovery sub-menu are Backup, Restore and Factory Defaults. Please don't be surprised if you click the Backup sub-menu will redirect you to page error I think this is a bug or a limited to Administrator account only such as root.

The Restore sub-menu is useless because username and password "smart" is limited only to certain feature as you have seen in this screenshot, so there is nothing you can restore with this function.

In addition, the MyBro DX-230 CPE out-door-unit does not support VoIP just like the legacy SmartBro Motorola Canopy Antenna fixed wireless internet broadband.

Lastly, the Factory Default sub-menu will only reset the SmartBro MyBro 4G WiMAX broadband wireless router modem from Green Packet Technology model DX-230 CPE out-door-unit to its original setting.

This will be my next project to dump the firmware of DX-230 CPE via hardware since there is no leak yet on the net to the Administrator privilege such as root and admin username password.

Huawei BM622i MAC Change Package Date 2010

This is another How-To change the MAC address of Huawei Echolife BM622i 4G WiMAX CPE broadband modem wireless router firmware date package 2010. This tricks is a different approach as the previous post to Huawei BM622i MAC Change Package Date 2011. Although this is being done also thru CLI via telnet or putty client with specific command.

The above is a snapshot of Huawei Echolife BM622i 4G WiMAX CPE broadband modem wireless router date package 2010 firmware from Globe Telecom Philippines one of 4G ISP Telcos in the country.

To begin with click the Start button of your Windows machine make sure you enable your telnet client from your Conrol Panel>Promgram and Features because on 32/64bit Windows7 this is disable by default, Windows XP don't have the issue about it. Putty is an alternative if you want to be handy.

On Search Programs and Files type telnet 192.168.254.1 then press Enter

Or simply use putty

Telnet Command
Login: wimax
Password:wimax820
ATP>diag set macaddr 40:4D:8E:26:A1:7C

set Lan mac address success
Lan mac address updated 40:4D:8E:26:A1:7D
set Lan Mac address Sucess
Wan mac address updated 40:4D:8E:26:A1:7C

ATP>diag reboot
This must be the output of your telnet command line interface (cli) or putty screen.

The Huawei Echolife BM622i 4G WiMAX CPE broadband modem wireless router will then now reboot just wait for few seconds.

Open your fave browser on the address bar type http://192.168.254.1 login as admin account used any password generator with your MAC address you used in telnet cli as in my case I have used  40:4D:8E:26:A1:7C MAC address and yours might be differ.

Your WAN and LAN MAC addresses would  appear similar to the screenshot above, once you have login as admin you must be seeing this. To verify that everything will works, while logged in as admin account navigate the BM622i 4G WiMAX CPE interface on the left corner there is WiMAX Menu click Security Sub-menu we will confirm if the Profile Security Setting is in place such NAI, User ID and the User Password fail to do this even a valid MAC address will not let you connect to the ISP network.

If happen to you such as the screenshot above then you will be in trouble (this will keep on connecting only), as in my case I have used 40:4D:8E:26:A1:7C as my valid MAC address so will then input manually the NAI, User ID and the User Password just like the snapshot below.

Here the sample of NAI, User ID and User Password

NAI 404D8E26A17C@globelines.com.ph
User ID 2008t2EIHdNtQEMD

In my case once I set from telnet command line interface ATP>diag set macaddr 40:4D:8E:26:A1:7C it will automatically changed the NAI, User ID and the User Password.

myBRO To Globe : How-To Configure Green Packet DV-235T

On my previous post I have written on How-To upgrade the myBRO DV-235T of Green Packet to the Stock Firmware. Today, I wanted to share to my beloved guest, commenters and visitors on How-To configure the Green Packet DV235T aka myBRO to be able to hook it to Globe network. This experiment is not an exploit or an ethical but only for Educational purposes only.

The myBRO DV235T Green Packet 4G WiMAX wireless modem router that is built-in with WLAN b/g that you can find on forums, online store, is a Smart/PLDT WiMAX CPE with customized firmware supplied by Green Packet Berhad, Malaysia the manufacturer.

Here's how to DIY, first you must have to update the myBRO DV-235T to the Green Packet stock firmware aka (web_update-2_3G-v2.10.14-g1.0.4-gp.tar), if you don't have the firmware, download it before you proceed to this guide. Once you have updated your myBRO to the stock firmware then you are now ready to do this stuff.

On your myBRO DV235T graphical user interface (gui) you will see the WiMAX Menu on  top of it, on the left Sub-Menu click the Scanner button to be able for you to edit/configure/input the Globe Telco 4G WiMAX ISP frequency just follow the screenshot above.

Next step is setting up the correct Username, Password and the Identity, this is just identical to Huawei 4G WiMAX wireless modem router CPE same thing you will do on this Authentication, except the issue here is the length of the Username character is limited to "maxlength=32". Meaning the generatedmacaddress@globelines.com.ph is not possible to be place or to be input on the given space provided. The trick to be able to expand the "maxlength=32", just point your mouse on your myBRO DV-235T gui then right-click you will be prompted with Inspect element (Q) by then you can now edit to what ever maxlength=?  you will wish as you have notice the above grabbed image. Hopefully you will now able to input your 34 character (generatedmacaddress@globelines.com.ph).

There you are, your generatedmacaddress@globelines.com.ph is now on its placed! On the below Option just tick the Auto Prepend Auto Mode and the Ignore Cert Verification. By the way you must not forget to click also the Apply button on every changes you have made to save your works.

Opps! we are not done yet, open your putty or telnet, you must use the this following command below to be successfully your myBRO DV-235T can enter the Globe Telco ISP network.

enable enter
router enter
wan mac (your mac address) enter
commit enter
exit enter
reboot enter

It only proves that myBRO DV-235T of Green Packet 4G WiMAX wireless broadband modem router CPE can be use on Globe Telco ISP. This tweaks can be found on Google, Forums and other popular blogs. Its not my intention to alter or deform this device, since the stock firmware can just be download anywhere and it is being seeded on different mirror sites don't flame on me about this stuff.

Feel free to use this article for your educational used, I do not guarantee or warranty if your device/CPE will get bricked. Enjoy!

Legacy Huawei Echolife BM622 4G WiMAX Modem Router Endless Life

The Huawei Echolife BM622 4G WiMAX broadband modem router is a legacy wireless residential gateway CPE manufactured by Huawei Technologies for Globe Telecom ISP in the Philippines.  The BM622 device is still popular until to date although this device has been already ended its life by the makers likewise the supplier has no longer issuing for their new user on internet wireless broadband subscriber.

It is astonishing for this legacy CPE the BM622 without any technical support by the Huawei Technologies and likewise the Globe Telecom ISP it can still be up and running. As a repairman like me I have reviewed this bulky 4G WiMAX broadband wireless modem router that even for a less techie person this equipment is handful to be fix, servicing this unit is not as difficult if compared to other SOHO gateways.

In addition to that, there are so many pdf and html file format tutorial that can be download with help of Google search engine to locate this manual. Forumers also did their part making step-by-step guide on how-to fix/repair this device, not only that but they have also provide a chat for interaction such Facebook on how-to Do-It-Yourself (DIY) for the homemade hardware flasher kit.

Even myself I have contributed the cross-reference Chips/IC for easy substitution of none local availability of ST Micro M25P32 4Mbit Serial Flash Memory likewise for the Spansion S29GL064 64Mbit NOR Flash Memory of this legacy residential wireless broadband modem router.
